JEDDAH — Art Jameel’s Annual Photography Award is launching several workshops this month in GCC countries which will be open to both citizens and non-citizens.
Dalya Mousa, program manager for Art Jameel, said 11 workshops are going to take place in several cities under the supervision of a number of art experts in collaboration with art and cultural institutions in the Gulf region.
The workshops will begin in Abha on Sept. 13 at 6.30 p.m. and will be presented by Abdullah Shojaa, who will talk about "The magic of nature".
On Sept. 16, a workshop about "Transitions" will be held at Music Art in Muscat. Ahmed Al-Shukaili and Rasha Al-Abdali will hold the workshop from 5:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Another workshop will be held by Bandar Al-Jaber about "Silent Nature" in Jail city at 6:30 p.m.
On Sept. 17, a workshop titled "Different Vision" by Essa Alhamodi will be held at 6:30 p.m. in Tabuk.
In Sharjah, two workshops will be held on Sept. 19 at 6:30 p.m. on how to develop ideas and perceptions and turn them into projects with Alia Al-Shamsi.
Another one will be held on Oct. 6 at the same time. This one will be on photography and will feature Reem Saeed.
A workshop about worldview with Raed Al-Maliki will be held in Jeddah on Oct. 6 at 6:30 p.m. A workshop will then be held the next day in Riyadh at 6:30 p.m. with Riyad Al-Jedaani.
A workshop on photography studios with George Back will be held on Oct. 10 at 6:30 p.m. in Dubai.
In Dammam, a workshop named "Secret Amendment" will be held on Oct. 15 with Omar Abdelaziz. The last workshop on photography will be on Nov. 12 in Kuwait. All of the workshops are open to the public and admission is free.
“We aim to discover emerging talent, develop their skills and hold unique photography exhibitions. The competition is being held this year under the title Transformation to reflect the changes that the community is witnessing today,” said Mousa.
She explained that participants, male and female citizens and residents in GCC countries above the age of 18, should provide a single image or a series of images that record social, cultural, economic, personal, or even technological changes.
The competition deadline is Oct. 31 and the awards ceremony will be held in December. Winners will receive cash prizes and the opportunity to showcase their work internationally.
