RIYADH — Wipro Ltd., a leading global information technology, consulting and business process services company, organized the tenth edition of the ‘Spirit of Wipro Run’, on Sept. 12, its biggest global employee engagement event, where employees and customers come together along with their families and friends to celebrate the joy of running and promote the values of a healthy lifestyle.

In its 10th year, the Spirit of Wipro Run was held in over 109 cities across the world and more than 68,000 people had registered for it. In Saudi Arabia, the Spirit of Wipro run marked its 10th year successfully in Riyadh, Jeddah and Khobar with more than 250 participants and 50 kids. The Spirit of Wipro Run, which began as a race limited to one city with 2,000 participants, has grown exponentially both in terms of size and scale.

The theme for this year’s marathon was “Run with a Purpose”, and it emphasized the need to educate children with disability. In 2014, under the broad charter of education, Wipro Cares, (a not-for-profit trust that engages with our proximate communities on the issues of education for the underprivileged, primary health-care and environment) started a new initiative for ‘Children with Disability’.

In the first year of engagement in the area of children with disability, the programs supported the educational and rehabilitative needs of 1,350 underprivileged children with disabilities through five projects in the cities of Bangalore, Pune, Jaipur and Hyderabad. The projects in this space focus on whatever makes education accessible and enriching for children with disability, especially those from an underprivileged background.

In the coming weeks, the firm hopes to roll out its new partnership in the US with First Book, a Washington DC based NGO in five cities. Wipro employees will have the opportunity to interact with the children through reading and book distribution events, and as time goes on, we plan to expand the program to more areas where Wipro has a presence nationwide.

Through this marathon, Wipro offices across countries are raising money to support those in their local neighborhoods.

This year Adidas partnered with the Spirit of Wipro Run to support the overall aim of bringing trained runners to the starting line. Through the multisport training platform ‘miCoach’ and the slew of cross-training activations across campuses, an integrated approach to training participants has been executed. — SG
