LONDON — Tottenham Hotspur pummeled Manchester City 4-1 Saturday to condemn Manuel Pellegrini's team to a third defeat in four games and leave it exposed at the Premier League summit.

City took a 25th-minute lead at White Hart Lane through Kevin De Bruyne, but Eric Dier drove home an equalizer on the stroke of half-time before Toby Alderweireld's header early in the first half put the hosts in front.

Harry Kane claimed his first club goal of the season and Erik Lamela added a fourth for Spurs as Mauricio Pochettino's side followed Juventus and West Ham United in inflicting defeat on the season's early pace-setters.

While Spurs climb to fifth, City could now concede first place to local rivals Manchester United if Louis van Gaal's side prevail at home to Sunderland later Saturday.

On Friday, Valencia secured a much-needed 1-0 win over Granada in the Spanish league for its first home victory of the season.

Center back Shkodran Mustafi headed in what proved to be the winner in the 26th minute, and goalkeeper Jaume Domenech made the saves his team needed to take the points.

Valencia's disgruntled fans had called for coach Nuno Espirito Santo to be fired after its last match at Mestalla Stadium, which ended in a draw. That was followed by a 1-0 defeat at Espanyol Tuesday.

Despite the win that pushed Valencia into a provisional sixth place, applause mixed with jeers after the final whistle. — Agencies
