JEDDAH — The percentage of crimes in Makkah province dropped this year by 13 percent, compared to the previous year.

Spokesman for Makkah Region Police Col. Ati Al-Qurashi said concerted efforts and field tours by police teams over the past months helped solve a number of unsolved crimes in the region. Individuals involved have been arrested and handed over to the prosecution authorities, he added.

Al-Qurashi said police arrested more than 387,000 violators of residency regulations during the year. According to him, the cooperation from the public resulted in the arrests of illegal residents.

Al-Qurashi urged both Saudis and expatriates to call 987 to report any violations or suspicious activity that comes under their notice.
