RIYADH — The Shoura Council interrogated more than 20 of its members after a report to the General Auditing Bureau was leaked to the press.
A source said the members have pleaded innocence.
“Shoura Council Secretary General Muhammad Al-Amr led the investigation along with Assistant Secretary General of Meetings Khalid Al-Dhubaiban, Assistant Secretary General of Committees Saeed Al-Qahtani and two consultants,” said the source.
The source also said the investigation looked into the positions and tasks of the members in question. “They were all asked about their daily routine and their work for the Council. The investigation looked into who has connections or access to the press and the Council reports,” said the source.
The Council has a strict procedure to follow in the case of any violation committed.
“When a member violates any of the conditions of membership, the Council issues a warning letter to the member stating the violation.
“If violation is repeated, the member’s one-month salary is stopped. In case of third violation, the Council’s membership is revoked,” said the source.
If a member is proven guilty, the Council submits a report recommending membership revocation to the King. But all violations recorded must undergo a thorough investigation. The investigative committee must consist of at least three members chosen by the head of the Council.
The committee will state the violation to the member and hear from the member what they have to say, said the source.
