JEDDAH — Obaid Al-Anzi clinched the Saudi Drift Star Champion 2015 title following an exciting fourth and final round held in Jeddah in front of a large number of motorsport fans.

The final round was held at the track of the Saudi International Motor Show in Jeddah, under the auspices of the Saudi Arabian Motor Federation and the supervision of Prince Sultan Bin Bandar Al-Faisal, chairman of the federation, and sponsored by Mountain Dew, Nissan, Saudi Total and Alf Alf FM radio, and organized by motorsport developer Abdullah Bakhashab.

To ensure impartiality of the tournament, all participants used similar cars — Nissan Z370, which were provided by the organizers.

The tournament consisted of four qualifying rounds held in different regions of the Kingdom. The first round was held in Al-Ahsa, the second in Al-Khobar, the third in Riyadh, while the fourth and final round was held in Jeddah.

Famous champions, led by Saeed Al-Moury and Ahmed Bin Khanin, participated in the final round and showed off their driving and maneuvering skills to laud applause from the audience.

Talented racer Mohammed Al-Orabi displayed breathtaking driving skills and made the audience sit on the edge of their seats in excitement.

Signs of fierce competition were writ large all over the performances of the participants in the pilot phase as they showed their determination to get to the Saudi Drift Star 2015 title.

The participants demonstrated high levels of drifting skills, thereby sending the referees in a spin as well and making it difficult for them to choose the best driver.

Finally, the competition boiled down between Abdulaziz Ba-Maas and Obaid Al-Anzi, where the later managed to win the final round and put his hands on the crown. Ba-Maas finished second and Khalid Al-Zaid third.

Samir Sharfan, head of Nissan Middle East, crowned the champion.

Abdulelah Wazni, general manager for Marketing and Communications at Nissan Saudi Arabia, thanked all the parties involved for making the event a success. He said: “We, at Nissan, are very excited in contributing to the development of motorsport in Saudi Arabia and support the efforts that encourage the emergence Saudi talent in the field.”
