MADINAH — People traveling on Baidah road in Madinah often complain about the poor quality of the road and its shabby maintenance.

Khalid Al-Harbi said every time he travels on the road he gets sad as it brings back the painful memory of his brother, Nasser, dying in an accident. What is even more distressing, Al-Harbi said, is that people are still being killed on the road for nearly 35 years with authorities making no effort to maintain the road.

"I cannot forget the difficult moment experienced by my father and mother when they received the news of the death of my brother during an accident on the Baidah road as a result of the deterioration and lack of safety standards on the road,” he said.

"After that incident, I avoid Baidah road because it reminds me of the death of Nasser, who left this world in the prime of his life. Although I am a believer in God and fate, I hold the authorities responsible for every drop of blood, for the lack of maintenance."

Deputy Municipal Councilor in Madinah, Abdul Ghani Al-Ansari, said that the council has always been calling for the development and improvement of the road.
A spokesman for the Civil Defense Department in Medinah, Col. Khalid Al-Juhani, said that they had sent several letters to the concerned authorities for years with regard to the Baidah road so as to protect people from danger.

Meanwhile, the Madinah Transportation Department announced a new project for the road that would be implemented immediately after the approval of the necessary budget.
