JEDDAH — A Saudi student on scholarship to Australia is accused of making an illegitimate relationship with a married Saudi female student and harassing many others.

The Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution (BIP) in Jeddah has completed interrogating the student. The case was forwarded to the BIP by a special committee which considers cases of students harming the Kingdom's reputation abroad.

The BIP accused the student of having an illegitimate relation with the Saudi female and tempting her to divorce her husband who was with her as a mahram (male guardian).

The bureau also accused the student of harming the Kingdom's reputation in a foreign country.

The defendant denied the accusations and said the married Saudi woman was studying with him in the same university and they used to exchange notes about lectures.

The husband presented to the bureau pictures and conversations on the Facebook between the student and his wife.

He also showed the attorney general a pledge signed by the student at the Saudi Embassy in Australia not to meddle in the life of married couple and never to intervene in the privacy of the Muslim girl students.

The husband also accused an embassy staff of interfering in the affairs of his wife giving his own mobile phone number to her to use in the banks instead of his.

The BIP decided to open a separate case against the embassy staff.

The husband, who was also on scholarship to Australia by his employing department to study for the bachelor degree, noticed the suspicious relationship between the student and his wife.

He entered into a fight with the student during which he broke his laptop. The student filed a complaint against the husband at an Australian court which ordered the deportation of the husband for intervening in the personal affairs of his wife.

The wife's brother was appointed as her mahram.
