JEDDAH — Anyone placing advertisements for hiring or offering sponsorship transfer of domestic workers will face legal action, according an announcement made by the Ministry of Labor on Sunday.
Such ads violate the regulations of the ministries of labor and interior. So individuals and violating agencies will face penalties. The Ministry of Labor will file a case with the judicial committee at the Ministry of Information which will specify punishment for the violating media outlets.
The Labor Ministry said that only licensed recruitment offices are authorized to publish such advertisements with their license codes.
The ministry said that such ads not only violate regulations but are also humiliating for domestic workers and goes against Islamic teachings.
Such ads are common on Instagram where even photos of maids and their language and work skills are posted.
Many families announce on social media or in newspapers that they want to transfer the sponsorship of their maids for amounts ranging between SR20,000 and SR30,000.
