JEDDAH — Fifty-two percent of women working in contracting and development sector are engaged in office work and writing tasks, a new report issued by the Ministry of Labor has revealed.
The report also reveals that 17 percent women are engaged in retail work and the remaining are in management and specialization positions as well as vocational, humanitarian and other chemical and industrial domains in the contracting and development sector.
The total number of women working in the sector adds up to 1,37,796 show the statistics which took into considerations all figures until last month. This constitutes only 4 percent of all employees working in the sector, and it also constitute only 25 percent of all women working in the labor market.
The report says a majority of women are working in Riyadh region — 43 percent of all working women in the contracting and development sector. It is followed by Makkah region which has 26 percent, and the Eastern Province with 15 percent. Working women in other regions had varying percentages ranging between 4 an 10.
Women are given over 600 job titles that range from office workers, sales officers, data entry employees, supervisors, financial officers and accountants.
The contracting and development sector provides a large number of jobs to Saudi women, noted the report.
The report noted that the ministry gives priority to locals of both genders to find suitable, productive and stable jobs that will contribute to the development of national economy and GDP. Further the ministry stated that it exerts efforts to provide attractive and suitable atmosphere to working women including safeguarding their privacy in line with the Ministry of Labor's regulations.
