JEDDAH — The municipality has announced a new initiative to improve food quality being served in restaurants. It will also provide a quality service control program that will put six different categories for restaurants in Jeddah.
The new initiative also envisages badges of honor for distinguished restaurants.
The municipality has signed an agreement with the British company Check Safety First to implement quality and safety measures in Jeddah restaurants. A large number of restaurants in the city are expected to take part in the program.
The restaurants will be provided with honor badges to encourage them to boost their food services and quality. The British company will ensure that such measures are implemented and improved.
A municipality statement noted that this will equally benefit the residents of the city and the restaurants.
“It will help implement the measures, reduce waste, and achieve customer satisfaction,” noted the statement adding that the program will also promote distinguished restaurants locally and internationally.

The evaluation will be based on their adherence to health regulations and the new ministerial regulations regarding food quality and safety.
The food companies can chose to participate or not in the program, noted Al-Mutib.
The badge of honor, however, can be provide based on different measurements that include the building itself, the safety and health of employees, transportation, storage, food preparation area, presentation hall, hygiene, drinking water, safely exits, training and services provided to people with special needs.
The restaurants will be categorized based on a scale of six and a consultant will be in charge of doing the evaluation based on a tour visit.
