RIYADH — Custom authorities thwarted bid to smuggle alcohol into the Kingdom and seized 20 bottles. Al-Bathaa Custom Control Director General Abdulrahman Al-Mihanna said a truck approaching the exit of Al-Bathaa Governorate was stopped by officers. It had a shipment of food products. After a thorough search of the the vehicle, officers found a box containing 20 bottles of alcohol in the shipment. Al-Mihanna said smugglers constantly attempt to hide alcohol and drugs in shipments of imported products.

Yemeni dies after
fall from cliff


JAZAN — A Yemeni man died after falling off a cliff. Jazan Civil Defense spokesman Capt. Yahya Al-Qahtani said upon receiving a report, rescue personnel rushed to the spot and hauled up the body. The case has been forwarded to the pertinent authorities for further investigations.

Man kills own
mother in Riyadh


RIYADH — A man shot and killed his elderly mother on Saturday in Riyadh’s western Badr district. Riyadh Police spokesman Col. Fawaz Al-Mayman said the suspect was arrested and the weapon seized. Further investigations are continuing, he said.
9,000 drug pills seized

TABUK — The police seized 9,000 drug pills found in a vehicle approaching a checkpoint in Al-Jahraa governorate. Officers said the driver, in his 30s, appeared nervous when they began searching the car. A total of 9,000 drug pills were found hidden in bags and other areas of the vehicle.

Two dead in accident

RIYADH — Two persons were killed and five others injured in a road accident. Riyadh Red Crescent official spokesman Abdullah Al-Muraibidh said the accident on Al-Thumamah Road, north of Riyadh, involved a family car and another vehicle.

Two Ethiopian
held for smuggling


ABHA — Police seized 548 amphetamine pills and arrested two suspects in a failed smuggling attempt on Saturday.
Asir Police spokesman Saad Al-Murih said officers seized 548 amphetamine pills, 247 batches of khat, 20 batches of hashish, and 132 liters of alcohol. The police also arrested two Ethiopian smugglers who were carrying no identity documents. Officers interrogated the pair to see if they had been involved in other smuggling attempts.

Worker killed at
construction site


TAIF — A worker died on Saturday morning after a wall collapsed on top of him. Taif Civil Defense spokesman Col. Nasser Al-Sharif said the accident occurred on a construction site in Saisid Area east of Taif. The construction site is for a house and the collapsed wall came from a second floor room.
