Many Spanish cities provide their visitors with knowledge and entertainment through several historical and natural sites.
Saudi Gazette picked strategic places in three Spanish cities, Madrid, Barcelona, and Segovia to be visited.
Starting with Madrid tourists can visit the Royal Palace, Plaza Mayor, and Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum.
The Royal Palace
Start your tour at the Royal Palace located on Bailén Street. The palace was built during the 19th century. An Italian, Filippo Juvara, was commissioned to design the palace, which was built in a grand fashion along the style of France’s Versailles.
Because of the alteration of artistic styles through different periods, the palace decoration has been modified over time. Visitors to the Royal Palace of Madrid will enjoy exploring the elegant rooms that tell old stories. Spain’s royal family continues to use the palace for state ceremonies. Several rooms in the palace are regularly open to the public, except during state functions.
Plaza Mayor
The name of the Plaza has changed over time. It was originally named ‘Plaza del Arrabal’. Three-story residential buildings surround it.
The public is not permitted to enter; yet tourists can still enjoy their time at a café or restaurant in the Plaza Square. In this square bullfights used to take place in the olden days.
The Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum
The Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum has a massive vital painting collection. The museum also houses an exquisite collection of 15th century portraits.
The museum, which had around 945,000 visitors in 2013, have over 1,600 paintings.
Barcelona is an attractive spot for lovers of architecture and history. Tourists can visit Museum of Barcelona, Montjuïc Castle, and La Seu Cathedral.
Museum of Barcelona
This is the Museum of Barcelona. It is situated inside a Gothic palace, which has three floors. It is located in the middle of the Barri Gòtic.
Inside the museum, visitors will learn about the Romans in ancient Spain. For example, visitors will be able to enter an ancient laundry and dying facility.
Montjuïc Castle
Montjuïc Castle currently serves as a Barcelona municipal facility. It is built on top of Montjuïc hill. This castle has roots dating back to 1640.
It became officially a cultural site for the city in 2008. Many concerts, seminars and exhibitions are taking place in this castle nowadays.
La Seu Cathedral
La Seu Cathedral is an old Gothic building in this city. It has a fourteenth-century cloister that includes a courtyard where you can see a Gothic portico and thirteen geese.
Segovia is located northwest of Madrid in central Spain.
In this city you can visit, the museum of Segovia, Roman Aqueducts, and the gardens.
The museum of Segovia
The museum showcases the history of Segovia during several centuries and explains the different economic conditions of the city.
It was created in 1842 and has around 6 rooms around a courtyard.It costs one Euro to enter.
Roman Aqueducts
Roman Aqueducts are historical pieces of art that people love to see. The Romans built aqueducts in approximately the 1st and 2nd century. Visitors can distinguish the old area of Segovia from the new one once they see this historical feature.
Gardens
Segovia has a multitude of gardens that visitors could enjoy walking and exploring during their visit to Segovia. There are different kinds of flowers and trees in these gardens that would help the visitors not only to enjoy their day but also to relax.
