HAIL – The mother of the martyr, Sgt. Badr Hamdi Al-Rashidi, has said she can sleep peacefully now that the murderers of her son received the deserving punishment for their ugly deed.

Um Badr said she did not have doubts for a moment that justice would be served against the criminals sooner or later.

The six suspects wanted in the murder of the special forces officer, who was their relative, last month was killed in a gunfight in the mountains of Rea Al-Bakr, 114 km south of Hail, on Friday.

The suspects had taken advantage of the family ties between them and the victim, luring him to his death, the Interior Ministry said. They opened fire on officers who located them driving toward Hail city. "Their vehicle skidded toward a desert area and a chase took place. They were cordoned in a mountainous area in Hail, and police helicopters had them under surveillance," the ministry said.

The suspects continued shooting despite calls to surrender, leading to an exchange of fire. "As result they were all killed," but no security men were hurt.

Um Badr said despite her acceptance of her son's fate as destined by Allah and her pride in him for defending the nation until the last day in his life, her happiness about the retribution enables her to sleep peacefully and feel at rest. She prayed to Allah to accept her son as a martyr and make Paradise his abode.

She said her son spent his life sacrificing for the nation. She swore that her late son remained loyal to the Holy Qur’an and the Prophet’s Sunnah as well as the rulers of the country. "He was obedient to his mother and helped his brothers. He defended the rights of the wronged. He always prayed regularly and recited the Qur’an regularly," Um Badr said.

She said the security men who chased the criminals have restored his right for retribution. She thanked Allah for enabling the security authorities to close in on and kill the militants, which is the just punishment for them.

Asked how she received the news of the encounter, Um Badr said: “I was watching the North Thunder military exercises on TV, when my son Saad broke the news to me. I just prayed loudly that Allah grant success to our rulers for the wellbeing of our country and people. Al-Rashidi has two sons and his widow is pregnant with their third child.
