MANAMA — Bahrain has deported several Lebanese residents for links to Hezbollah, which Gulf Arab states have declared a terrorist organization, its Interior Ministry said on Monday.

“A number of Lebanese residents have been deported after it was confirmed that they belonged to and supported terrorist Hezbollah,” the ministry said in a statement posted on its Twitter account.

The move came after Gulf Arab countries declared Hezbollah a terrorist organization.

On Sunday, Saudi Arabia said it would punish anyone who belonged to Iranian-backed Hezbollah, sympathizes with it, supports it financially or harbors any of its members.

The Arab League on Friday declared Hezbollah a terrorist group, after Gulf states did the same earlier this month.

In January, Bahrain said it had dismantled a terror cell linked to Iran’s Revolutionary Guards and Hezbollah. — Agencies
