AL-KHARJ/RIYADH — The municipality demolished structures on more than one million sq. meters of land that had been illegally appropriated. Al-Dalm Municipality head, Faris Al-Qahtani, said the encroachment committee at the municipality had demolished two water reserves, steel gates set up illegally, newly planted trees on public property and various randomly occupied public properties and lands in Al-Dalm Governorate. He said the municipality would not be lenient in implementing its regulations, and had handed down the appropriate penalties on encroachers.


5 teachers injured
in Hail accident


HAIL — Five teachers were injured in a road accident on Sunday. Hail Red Crescent spokesman Mohammad Al-Tayyar said the teachers were in traveling home and their vehicle collided with another on Al-Naisiyah road north of Hail. Paramedics transported the injured to King Khaled Hospital. Four of the victims were released from the hospital after getting first aid, while the fifth stayed in the hospital for further treatment.

3 hurt as vehicle
rams into camel


MAKKAH — Three teachers were injured in a road accident on Sunday. Makkah Health spokesman, Abdulwahab Shalabi, said a vehicle transporting three teachers to their work at Al-Rayifah School collided with a stray camel and rolled over, injuring the teachers and the driver. Paramedics transported the victims to Al-Noor Specialist Hospital. Doctors said all four victims had improved and they expect to release the teachers and driver soon.

Power failure leads to
evacuation of students


DHAMAD, JAZAN — All the students were evacuated from a school buildings in Jazan after a power failure. Sabya Education Affairs spokesman, Ali Khawaji, said electricity was cut to the education complex buildings on the first day of school due to construction work near the complex under Al-Tahlia Waters Project. The complex consists of primary middle and high school buildings. The directorate contacted the electricity company to reconnect power while authorities informed parents that students had been evacuated for their safety.


Municipality accused
of negligence


JAZAN — The Ministry of Housing has accused Jazan municipality of negligence in housing projects. Jazan Municipality spokesman, Yahya Hikmy, said the ministry accused the municipality of failing to submit a requested plan which resulted in a number of neighborhoods being excluded from a new housing plan. The municipality had sent the blueprints of four neighborhoods to the ministry years ago. The municipality submitted the blueprints for Al-Rah, Falas and Al-Qahma neighborhoods, as well as blue prints for 9 million square meters of Khabt Al-Jiniyah Neighborhood.

Kuwait fines Saudi
for sectarian tweets


RIYADH — A Saudi resident in Kuwait was fined almost SR250,000 for posting tweets on Twitter deemed sectarian. A source said the Kuwaiti Criminal Court fined a Saudi man who resided in the Kuwait for seven years with KD20,000 for posting anti-Shiite tweets. The man was forced to return to the Kingdom after the incident. The tweets were deemed highly offensive and promoted hatred against the Shiites.
