RIYADH — The National Commission for Facilities discussed improving the working system at the Kingdom’s Airports as the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) strives to implement the specification and recommendation of the International Civil Aviation Commission (ICAO) in respect to the facilities given in air transport. The commission, with all its members in attendance, held its first a meeting in its headquarter in Riyadh. The commission aim is to adopt the procedures and measures that will lead to a streamlined movement at airports, at the same token, put in place all that would speed up and facilitate travel and reduce the time it takes the traveler to end the proceedings before boarding an aircraft.
In a meeting chaired by Capt. Abdul Hakim Al-Bader, Assistant to GACA president for safety, security and transport and attended by representatives from various ministries and government agencies, a few subjects were discussed aimed at improving the work system at airports and the development of techniques used to speed up the security measures and clearance of goods and review the application of recommended systems, such as (MRTD) and the system of advance passenger information (API).
The participants confirmed that the combination of efforts by entities working in airports and continuous coordination and cooperation among them is an important factor in the management of the airport’s ability to achieve its goals in the highest level of operational readiness. And to raise the security levels, safety and the smooth flow of passenger traffic and goods easily and conveniently.
It should be noted that the commission was set up by a ministerial decree, and includes in its membership the Directorate General of Passports, Customs Authority, the General Authority of Tourism and National Heritage, the General Authority of Investment, the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Interior, the Royal Saudi Air Force, Saudi post and Saudi Arabian Airlines.
