MAKKAH — The Presidency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques has introduced advanced electric carts for elderly and special needs pilgrims to perform Saie (walking between Safa and Marwa hillocks), reported Arabic daily Al-Madina on Tuesday.

The presidency said it will start the project with 50 carts during Ramadan and added that the carts will only be given to people who can operate them by themselves.
The presidency said the carts will be handed over on formal receipts which contain the user’s name and the number of his ID or passport. The users will be held responsible in case of damage to the carts. In such a case they may be asked to pay compensation.
