TWO brothers in Riyadh, and two in Qatif: they are from different sects, but they are united in terror. Their hands are stained with the blood of innocents. Both of them betrayed their victims. In Riyadh, the victim’s mother was waiting for her sons to buy her a new dress for Eid, but instead they gave her the shroud of death to wear in her grave. In Qatif, the victim is a police officer who was guarding society and a traffic department officer who was protecting the safety of our roads.
There is no difference between the two crimes. The first crime was terrible and shocking; twin brothers slaughtering their own mother. The other crime is just as terrible because it is a crime against the country that provided the pair with peace, security and comfortable living.
Weeks ago, I wrote an article on harassment in our society, which resulted in fights, stabbings, and even the use of guns. I did mention how easy it is to commit murder for silly reasons.
Today we see a very ugly picture when viciousness is mixed with treason. It is very unnatural for a person to shoot someone, or stab him, or hit his head with a butcher knife, no matter what the differences are. A soul is sacred.
It is very ugly to see brothers killing their own old mother, who gave birth to them and cared for them all through. The same can be said of assassinating a traffic official who was ensuring the safety of our streets.
What happened in recent years shows that the fight is inside. The enemy that we were expecting to meet face to face is actually behind us and his weapon is treachery, and it feeds on savagery.
