This is the fourth and final display of works drawn from the Barjeel Art Foundation’s major collection of Arab art from the modern to the contemporary period. Imperfect Chronology – Mapping the Contemporary II explores how artists using various media artistically engage with the cities where they either live or work.

Rochechouart Museum of Contemporary Art presentsLucy’s Iris, an exhibition of works by 25 female artists from Africa. Their highly diverse styles are represented in over 40 artworks that provide a glimpse of the remarkable originality of African art today and in this case particularly through works being created by female artists. Lucy, whose skeleton was discovered on African soil and who was for a long time thought to be the oldest ancestor of the human race, lends her name to this exhibition.

Over the last one hundred years, humans have drastically altered the natural environment through industrialization, intensive farming, rapid urbanization, and the development of fossil fuels. In an era of planetary climate change, how will these transformations alter the way we live our lives? How can we understand climate change from a historical and cultural perspective? How can we imagine an alternative, more equitable future? Let’s Talk About the Weather: Art and Ecology in a Time of Crisisbrings together 17 local and international artists showcasing new works dealing with climate change and ecological disaster. A special series of publications, edited by Ashkan Sepahvand in collaboration with the exhibition curators, will be produced in conjunction with this exhibition, including a contribution from Sophia Al Maria.

Every year in early July, the FIDMarseille — Marseille’s International Film Festival, presided by Paul Otchakovsky-Laurens and directed by Jean-Pierre Rehm, proposes a programme of 130 films to approximately 23,000 spectators, in cinemas, theaters, libraries, art galleries, and in open-air amphitheaters throughout the city. The festival presents a large number of films in their world premiere as well as first films. Today, the FIDMarseille is recognized as a source of new cinemas, both documentary productions as well as fiction films.

In a world where the visual in all its forms occupies a central function in our relationship with the Other and with society, thePossible Image is a new denomination which wishes to explore the issues and the topicality of this ‘imaged-future of reality.’ After having worked for a number of years around various themes (Territory, Control, Love, Belief, etc.), BIP is now turning towards a freer and more open exploration of the visual field. Videos, films, photographs, projections, new media and installations are presented in combination and deploy the possible forms and the varied statuses of the analogue or digital image, fixed or moving, play with it, explore it, reverse it or re-establish it.

The 13th edition of the Fellbach Small Sculpture Triennial is curated by Susanne Gaensheimer, Director of the MMK Museum für Moderne Kunst Frankfurt am Main, who has curated the German Pavilion at the Venice Biennale twice. Co-curator of the exhibition is the Frankfurt-based Swiss curator Anna Goetz. The exhibition title, FOOD – Ecologies of the Everyday, is programmatic. More than 40 international artists reflect on the subject of food and the context of it’s production and consumption as paradigmatic, universal examples of social, political, ecological and economic interrelations.

Singing Softly When No One’s Around | Art Gallery of Ontario, Ontario, Canada | May 19 – July 30, 2016
The AGO’s Youth Council project created a project collaboration with artist Abbas Akhavan, interviewing eight security guards about their lives, their role at the Gallery and their favourite work of art. You can listen to the interviews online or pick up a map at the Art Gallery to take a tour of the works. The project’s title is taken from one of the interviews.
Youssef Nabil
In collaboration with KREËMART and Bernardaud, the premier manufacturer of porcelain in France, Youssef Nabil has produced a set of limited edition plates featuring details of two seminal works from his oeuvre. These plates are signed and numbered at the back by the artist, in a limited edition run of 150, and are now available at The Third Line.
