NEW YORK — Saudi Arabia and Kuwait late on Tuesday complained to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon about repeated transgressions by Iranian military boats in the waters adjacent to the area divided between Saudi Arabia and Kuwait, the Kuwaiti News Agency reported.
The Permanent Missions of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait to the UN informed Ban that the Kingdom and Kuwait have exclusive sovereign rights to explore and benefit from natural wealth in the area.
According to a complaint lodged with the UN, the last incident of transgression was committed on April 20-21 by two vessels and two armed speedboats displaying Iranian flags.
Each boat had three armed individuals onboard.
These two vessels and two speedboats approached Al-Dorra well No. 3 (D3) in Al-Dorra field inside the Saudi-Kuwaiti divided zone.
Such transgressions may lead to confrontation that threatens peace and security in the region, noted the complaint.
Saudi Arabia and Kuwait have exclusive rights to explore and benefit from the hydrocarbon wealth in Al-Dorra field and the divided submerged area.
The complaint said that the governments of Saudi Arabia and Kuwait express their dissatisfaction about these repeated transgressions and demand that Iran stop these acts of infringement.
Saudi Arabia and Kuwait have repeatedly called for negotiations with Iran to determine maritime delimitation separating the waters of the divided submerged area. But they have not received any response from Iran.
