MADINAH — The Ministry of Labor and Social Development announced it is handling the case of three children abused by their own mother, Al-Hayat reported.

Ministry of Labor and Social Development official spokesman Khalid Abal Khail said the case of the three abused children in Khaibar governorate is being handled by the ministry.

“The mother of the children has abandoned her children, a boy and two girls, and deprived them of their basic necessities including food and health care. The children had physical and psychological injuries as a result of the treatment they underwent,” said Abal Khail.

He also said the three children were medically checked and advised appropriate treatment.

“The boy will be taken to Madinah Comprehensive Rehabilitation Center as he is in need of intensive medical care. The two girls will be put in a social protection unit in Madinah. Their mother is unfit for taking care of her children. The case was forwarded to the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution,” said Abal Khail.

He also said the ministry will look closely into each child to know the causes of abuse and what abuse they have gone through.

“Anyone responsible for the abuse of these children will be penalized under the Law for the Protection of Children from Abuse and Harm. All citizens should be active in reporting any sighted domestic abuse by calling 1919,” said Abal Khail.

Director of the Labor and Social Development Ministry in Madinah Ali Al-Ghamdi said the ministry will penalize all people responsible for the abuse of the children regardless of their relationship to the children.

“The children were tortured for more than a year and a half and will not return to their families until there is stability. The children are aged between 13 and nine years. We have received 50 cases of domestic abuse during the past three months,” said Al-Ghamdi.

Khaibar Mayor Badr Bin Darweesh said the mother was diagnosed with a mental illness and was released by the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution.
