CAIRO — The Egyptian National Railway has taken delivery of the 14 of 212 trains manufactured locally by the Arab Organization for Industrialization (AOI) in a bid to improve the country’s railway service.
During a tour of the facility manufacturing the trains, the Egyptian Minister of Transport, Galal Saeid, said that the ministry had also received the 20th train as part of the first metro line as part of the agreement with Korean company, Hyundai Rotem, at a cost of EGP 2.2 billion.
Saied added that 11 metro trains had been manufactured in Korea under the agreement, while the remaining nine had been manufactured locally at the SEMAF factory, which is part of the AOI.
He also said that work was continuing on the third and fourth metro line within Egypt’s new metro project.
