MANY have complained about the things that take place inside the women’s sections at most wedding halls. One of the complaints is that many Saudi women wear revealing dresses and tend to imitate the style and fashion of American and European women, something that is against the Shariah. Why have Saudi women become so weak and dependent and why do they want to dress like European women? Some may think that Saudi women are losing their religious values?

Another complaint is about the waste of food. Nowadays, women compete over who can serve the most expensive food at wedding parties. What is worse is that the families of the bride and the bridegroom sometimes quarrel over how much food should be served. Isn’t this a trivial issue? How can we end these negative practices?

A father should explain to his sons and daughters that these practices are negative and that they should not be given any priority. Of course, he should start teaching them such values when they are young children. A mother has a more important role to play in this issue. Mothers and daughters tend to have closer relationships with one another. Therefore, a mother should try to instill these good values in her daughter’s mind at an early age.

Undoubtedly, raising a child these days is more difficult than what it used to be in the past. Parents are more than ever required to exert greater effort and to develop skills of persuasion and work together to teach their children positive values. Teachers, both male and female, should do more to explain to students about these negative practices and encourage them not to engage in them.

We have to focus more on our daughters because they will one day become mothers and they may teach their children negative habits without knowing it. We can protect our society if we protect the minds of our daughters.
