RIYADH — Driving a vehicle with faulty headlights may incur you a fine of up to SR900 and/or seizure of vehicle, Makkah newspaper quoted a Traffic Department source as saying.

A repeat violation will result in the confiscation of driver’s license, the source told the Arabic newspaper.

Earlier, the Traffic Department had warned motorists against driving with defective taillights.

Driving a vehicle with defective taillights and/or headlights is a serious violation, said the source.

The Traffic Department urged citizens and residents to report any violation by calling 993 or by using the application “Kuluna Amn”.

“The general safety and security is the collective work of every member of society. The department has its inspectors and officers but the role of citizens and residents in reporting these violations is paramount,” said the source.

Saudi Arabia is among the leading car import markets. By 2019, the total vehicle fleet on the Kingdom’s streets is expected to reach over 7.9 million units, according to Carmudi’s report on the Booming Automotive Industry in Emerging Markets (BMI).

Car sales in Saudi Arabia reached 750,000 in 2013, a 6% increase from 2012, spurred by the rising levels of disposable income.

Saudi Arabia’s vehicle market is by far Middle East’s largest market and is dominated by Japanese brands. The Kingdom has a market worth of more than $22 billion.
