COLOMBO — Sri Lanka captain Angelo Mathews has been ruled out of the remainder of the one-day series against Australia due to a calf muscle injury, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said Friday.
Mathews limped off during his knock in the fourth One-Day International as Australia secured a six-wicket win in Dambulla Wednesday, giving the visitors an unassailable 3-1 lead heading into the final game in Kandy Sunday.
The 29-year-old will also miss the two Twenty20 matches against the Australians.
"Angelo's MRI and clinical symptoms are both consistent with a medial calf muscle injury. He is not expected to be available for the remainder of the Australian series," SLC said in a statement.
Bangladesh hires Samaraweera as batting guru
Bangladesh Friday named former Sri Lankan cricketer Thilan Samaraweera as its batting consultant for next month's home series against England.
Samaraweera's appointment came a day after former West Indies great Courtney Walsh agreed a three-year term to become the specialist pace bowling coach of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
BCB President Nazmul Hassan said the board was in the process of appointing more coaching staff ahead of a flurry of international cricket, including a tour to New Zealand in December-January and maiden Test in India in February.
"We have confirmed the service of Samaraweera as our batting consultant for England series," Hassan told reporters.
"Fielding coach Richard Halsall will now work as the assistant coach. We are also looking for a spin bowling coach."
Bangladesh recently terminated the contract of the national team's Sri Lankan assistant coach Ruwan Kalpage after he failed to turn up for a training camp.
England will arrive in Dhaka on Sept. 30 to play two Tests and three ODIs. — Agencies
