CAIRO — An Egyptian wife has requested a divorce in the Egyptian Family Court because she argues that her once fit husband is now overweight.
The wife submitted her request for divorce, saying that before the marriage he was a handsome man with a six pack and muscles, but that after six months of marriage he became overweight with a two-meter paunch, according to her description.
The woman, named Marwa, works as an engineer and said “every woman dreams to marry a romantic man that makes her satisfied to never think about another men, and this is how I felt when we were engaged. He used to go to the gym and he cared about his personal hygiene, but after marriage things were totally different and he turned in to a disgusting person,” she said.
“After six months of marriage, he became a very ugly and pathetic because of his weight and his belly he looks like a pregnant woman.”
She added that he also forced her to maintain her health and stay thin.
“If I don’t go to the saloon weekly to take care of my looks, he beats me or abuses me. I cannot live with such person. Our marriage was the biggest mistake I ever made in my life,” she said.
She added that she was offered many times to find another man, but she preferred not to cheat or leave him until they were divorced.
The husband presented medical reports to the court to prove that he is overweight due to health issues.
