Saudi Gazette report

JEDDAH — Congestion in the city roads, especially in morning hours, has reached such levels that it has become a crawl for most motorists in select areas for the second consecutive week, Al-Madina newspaper reported.

A source said the roads are crowded from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. as well as early in the morning and later in the afternoon.

“Some drivers are violating traffic regulations in the main roads and the rate of accidents has also increased. This despite the fact that the Traffic Department is raising awareness about the importance of adhering to the traffic regulations. There are 225 traffic police officers on the streets of Jeddah to monitor the roads,” said the source.

The source added the department will ban random parking in front of schools and colleges to control the congestion.

“The congestion is in seven main roads in Jeddah: Al-Madinah Road, King Fahd Road, Felesteen Road, Prince Majed Road, Al-Haramain Highway Road, King Abdulaziz Road and Tahliah Road,” said the source.
