MANILA — Young actress Kylie Padilla is starring in a new teleserye (TV series) titled “Haram” on the GMA 7 network.



Padilla, who is Muslim in real life, plays a Muslim girl on the show opposite actor Dingdong Dantes, who plays a soldier.



Padilla assured viewers that the show will run smoothly. According to GMAnetwork.com, she was also quoted as saying on the 24 Oras newscast, “I just wanna let them know na hindi namin babastusin ang Islam. Siyempre, aalagaan po namin. May mga consultant po kaming Muslim. So, hindi po namin pababayaan.” (I just want to let them know that Islam will not be denigrated. Of course, we will exercise caution. We have Muslim consultants. So we will not let it be disparaged.)



Padilla is the daughter of action star Robin Padilla, who embraced Islam in the 1990s. Her sister, Queenie, is a former actress who decided to leave show business after her visit to Makkah last year to perform Haj. — SG
