MALAYSIAN food and beverages at the first truly Malaysian specialty grocery shop, Kedai Asia. Located in Jeddah Al Aziziyah neighborhood, not far from the Malaysian Consulate in Saudi Arabia, Kedai Asia offers more than 300 different Malaysian food and beverage products from famous Malaysian local house brands such as Adabi, Yeo›s, Kipas Udang, Boh Tea, Life and even including traditional Malay authentic products such as budu, tempoyak, cincalok, pekasam and belacan.

Kedai Asia founded by Husam Waksa Sdn Bhd chooses Jeddah as their flagship franchise being the first Malaysian grocery shop to set foot in Saudi Arabia. The establishment, Kedai Asia Arabia Est is jointly owned by Husam Waksa Sdn Bhd and M. Nazeyh Garah Est.

This first outlet in Jeddah will be followed by several others planned for other main cities in the region, including Madinah, Riyadh and possibly in Jubail in the near future.

Since their opening, Kedai Asia received more than 2,000 visitors exceeding their expectations. Thus far, Anas Atarek Kamil, Marketing Director of Kedai Asia said that they received many positive reviews with some saying that Kedai Asia successfully brings them back to Malaysia.

Tuan Khairul Annuar Abdul Halim, Malaysia Trade Commissioner, Consulate of Malaysia in Jeddah, urges Malaysian SME in halal food industry players to look at this as a great opportunity to enter the Saudi Arabia halal market through Kedai Asia as the gateway.

Matrade often supports such initiative especially a Malaysian home grown young entrepreneur expanding their business overseas and this new achievement is something to be proud of after their 8th year establishment in the Kingdom. The shop is not only selling our Malaysian export, but will give multiple impacts in Malaysia branding and will value add our tourism as well through the promotion of our Malaysian food products.

A follow-up shipment from Malaysia is imminent as the shop received tremendous reception from Malaysians living in Jeddah, Saudis and other nationalities who flood the shop from the day it was opened. — SG
