JEDDAH — At a workshop here on Sunday, representatives of 10 government bodies discussed ways to overcome the issue of unauthorized hawkers selling vegetables, fruit, food products and other fresh products like meat. The participants said they will work on a study to be finalized within a month in order to find solutions in order to protect public health. The event was held at Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI).
The head of trade committee at the JCCI, Naif Al-Sharif, said the workshop addressed the spread of these trolleys and carts carrying food items in unhygienic conditions. These practices, he added, are increasing due to the absence of enough supervision and deterrent punishment. The participating departments include representatives from the governorate, municipality, ministries of trade and commerce, labor and social development, transport, police, traffic department, Food and Drug Authority, the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution and the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization.
The JCCI committee, he said, will work with different bodies to combat vendors selling their wares at different public places. He added that the aim is to contact with the government departments in order to improve the investment environment in Jeddah.
