RIYADH – A man wanted in connection with terrorist activities was killed in an exchange of fire with security forces in the Eastern Province city of Qatif on Thursday, the Saudi Press Agency reported on Friday quoting the Interior Ministry's security spokesman.

Mustafa Ali Al-Madad was wanted for his involvement in a number of terrorist crimes against citizens and security personnel, SPA said.

The spokesman said Madad refused to comply when security forces ordered him to surrender and instead opened fire at them. The officers fired back, resulting in Madad’s death.

The shootout began while police were combing a neighborhood where Madad was believed to have been hiding. A policeman was slightly wounded in the exchange of fire.

Thursday’s shootout comes a few days after the killing of a policeman by an unknown assailant. Officer Musa Al-Sharari was shot dead in his car on Tarout island in Qatif governorate. — SG/SPA
