JEDDAH — A Kuwaiti and a Nepali have recently been added to the list of suspects detained in various intelligence prisons in the country, according to Nafidhah electronic gate of the Interior Ministry.
The electronic window was initiated by the ministry to communicate with the detainees’ relatives and friends. The two men were nabbed on March 12-13, according to a report posted on the website on Tuesday. It said this was the first time any Kuwaiti or Nepali was apprehended in the Kingdom on terrorism charges.
With the new arrivals the number of suspects detained in intelligence prisons rose to 5,139.
According to the latest statistics issued by the window on Tuesday, the detainees belonged to 32 nationalities, topped by Saudis who number 4,298.
Yemenis come second with 272 detainees followed by Syrians (220) and Pakistanis (76).
Various intelligence prisons hold a total of 53 Egyptians, 29 Sudanese, 19 Turkish, 19 Indians, 17 Chadians, 16 Jordan and 8 Afghans. There are 11 detainees each from Bahrain, Iran and Somalia; four each from Iraq, Bangladesh and Nigeria; three each from Ethiopia, Philippines, the US and Lebanon; two each from Qatar, Mauritania, the UAE and Morocco; and one each from Angola, Algeria, China, Burkina Faso and Canada.
Sixty-five of the suspects, who included 37 Saudis, were arrested last month. Four of the Yemeni suspects and 16 Turkish were arrested in recent months.
