MAKKAH — The local municipality demolished a number of randomly built buildings and courtyards in several Makkah neighborhoods on Wednesday.
Head of Al-Showqiyah Municipality Mamdouh Iraqi said the municipality ran an inspection campaign in several areas in the city.

“The inspectors demolished random structures and courtyards that were set up without license from the municipality. The municipality reclaimed 5,000 sq. meters of encroached public land in Al-Akishiyah. It demolished a building that was 10 meters high and 50 meters long,” said Iraqi.

He said the municipality also demolished cattle farms that were harmful and polluting the environment.

“The municipality has several field inspectors monitoring various areas of the city to ensure that violators do not encroach on public property. The municipality will not be lenient in penalizing the violators,” said Iraqi.
