JEDDAH — An Arab man plotted to stage a heist in order to steal SR1 million from his Saudi wife, who is the daughter of a rich businessman.
The Arab expatriate hired two Asians to fake a heist. The two men broke into the family's home in Al-Faisaliyah district in central Jeddah and threatened to set off an explosive belt if a ransom of SR1 million was not paid to them.
The incident took place early Tuesday. The two men wearing face masks and hand gloves held the Arab man and his wife hostage and demanded that they pay SR1 million or else they will blow up the house with them inside. The men pointed a gun at the man’s head and ordered his wife to go and get the money.
The woman complied but they then demanded more money. The Asians threatened to knock out the couple using medical solutions they had with them.
The woman's brother who lived in the same building called his father when he heard unusual noises from his sister’s house. The father in turn informed the police, who surrounded the house before barging in.
The two Asians tried to escape by jumping over the fence but police had already surrounded the house. The expatriates were arrested and disarmed.
None of them were actually wearing an explosive belt but had wrapped a piece of cloth around the waist to give the feeling they could detonate it any time.
The two expatriates confessed that the woman's husband was the mastermind behind the entire plot.
