JEDDAH — Orphan’s day will be celebrated on 15th Ramadan 1438H corresponding to June 10, according to Mohammad Abdus Shakoor, president Al-Khidmat Foundation, Pakistan, at a meeting with mediapersons at Al-Rehmah restaurant here.

Habib Rehman Khan, board member Alkhidmat Mawakhat program, renowned Urdu writer and journalist Abdul Sattar Nazir Hijazi and members from the Pakistan Journalist Forum (PJF) attended the meeting.

Shakoor said the OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation) Cultural Wing recommended to mark orphan’s day and we also received approval from Pakistani Senate (Upper legislative chamber of the bicameral legislature of Pakistan).

On orphan’s day we will be holding different children’s education programs. We will organize visitation of people and set up a meet with the children. This bond between visitor and the orphan is vital as the child feels happy to connect with the donor that is making their life so much better, he said.

We will make awareness of the day through Friday’s sermons at mosques, publish special supplements in the print media and through talk shows at electronic media, he added.

He said in charity works Pakistan is among the leading nations in the world. According to a report Pakistanis spend PRs.600 billion each year on charities. He appealed to the community to sponsor an orphan and give them hope for a bright future.

He gave details about Al-Khidmat Foundation Pakistan stating it is the biggest and most organized network providing humanitarian services across Pakistan. It is registered in Pakistan as a non-governmental organization (NGO). Its sole aim is service to humanity without discrimination of religion, race, caste, sect, language, or political affiliation.

Shakoor further elaborated that Al-Khidmat Foundation has helped people affected by natural calamities like earthquakes and floods, assisted in water crises, and in the settling of displaced persons and refugees nationally and internationally.

To a question, he said “We wish to extended our services to patriotic stranded Pakistanis too who are living in miserable conditions in Bangladeshi camp.”

He said to provide best education and respectful accommodation for the orphan children we are making “Aaghosh” center in cooperation with Pakistan’s star cricketer Shahid Khan Afridi.

Habib Rehman Khan thanked all participants and congratulated Mohammad Abdus Shakoor on performing Umrah and also visiting the Prophet”s Mosque Madinah.
