JEDDAH — In collaboration with the General Entertainment Authority, Dar Al-Hekma University is organizing the all-female event “Harmony of Civilization” on May 3 and 4 on the university’s campus. The proceeds will go to Dar Al-Hekma University Scholarship Fund which aims to provide quality higher education opportunities to students.
The event promotes acceptance and tolerance amongst civilizations.
“Dar Al-Hekma University encourages students to understand and respect different cultures and civilizations because it enriches their lives and makes them more well-rounded human beings. Dar Al-Hekma University invests in building personalities since humans are the most important asset in a country. What distinguishes Dar Al-Hekma University is its diversity in students, faculty and staff who come from all around the world with different backgrounds and experiences; this helps educate the new generation of gradates in Saudi Arabia to be more tolerant and accepting,” said Dr. Suhair Hassan Al Qurashi, DAH president.
The Harmony of Civilizations will include an open bazaar and a ticketed folkloric performance.
The show will include several theatrical and dramatic shows performed by more than 60 women including Dar Al-Hekma students, graduates and staff.
The ticket sales will support the Scholarship Fund and will be sold at Dar Al-Hekma University, Tabateek Cafe, Helen’s Bakery, and Lammt Website.
The event’s program includes the Saudi Arabian, African, Syrian, Indian, Brazilian and Bangladeshi performances which will shed the light on the traditional and national costumes of these different cultures.
“Coming from a multicultural background, I have always had great interest and appreciation of culture. I believe culture is expressed in many ways and to me the most significant aspects of any culture are food and celebrations.
“Therefore, when I heard about cultural night at Dar Al-Hekma University I was immediately intrigued and excited to join. The African dance, in my opinion, is bold, smooth and colorful and combines everything I would like in a performance. Our choreographer Awash is an outstanding and talented performer and dancer. “She included many styles of dance in this one performance and has been amazing at training us. She is absolutely energetic and motivating and I believe her talent is truly reflected in the energy and vibe of our performance,” said Mariam Al-Darwish, one of the performers at the event.
