CHICAGO — Starlin Castro and Aaron Hicks homered as the New York Yankees beat the Chicago Cubs 11-6 Saturday.
Hicks’ four hits tied a career high and Castro added three hits as the center fielder and second baseman were a combined 7-for-9 with six RBIs and five runs scored. Hicks hit a three-run homer in the eighth inning, and Castro smacked a two-run shot in the fourth.
New York scored five times in the first inning en route to their fourth straight victory and 18th in 23 games. Yankees starter Jordan Montgomery (2-1) allowed three runs (two earned) and three hits in 6 2/3 innings.
Red Sox 11, Twins 1: Chris Young homered twice while Xander Bogaerts and Andrew Benintendi each had three hits as the Boston Red Sox used an eight-run second inning to cruise to an 11-1 victory against the Minnesota Twins on Saturday.
Sandy Leon had three hits, including a late home run, as Boston finally supplied Rick Porcello with some run support in scoring a season high in runs and posting 16 hits.
Indians 3, Royals 1: Carlos Santana and Francisco Lindor homered in the ninth inning as Ceveland rallied to beat Kansas City.
Royals closer Kelvin Herrera (1-1) entered in the ninth with the score tied 1-1 and retired the first two batters before giving up the consecutive home runs. Joakim Soria, who is 0-for-2 in save situations, gave up the tying run in the eighth on three hits.
Rays 6, Blue Jays 1: Tampa Bay got seven solid innings from Jake Odorizzi and a homer and three RBIs each from Logan Morrison and Colby Rasmus on the way to defeating Toronto at Tropicana Field.
Nationals 6, Phillies 2: Ryan Zimmerman continued his remarkable stretch with the bat, driving in three runs in Washington’s victory over reeling Philadelphia.
Zimmerman leads the majors in multiple categories including average (.435), RBIs (34) and home runs (13, tied with the Yankees’ Aaron Judge).
Athletics 6, Tigers 5: Adam Rosales hit a two-run, walk-off single with two outs in the ninth inning off Francisco Rodriguez as Oakland rallied past Detroit.
The walk-off win was Oakland’s first of the season.
Mets 11, Marlins 3: Jay Bruce collected three RBIs off a pair of long doubles as surging New York routed Miami.
The Mets have won three in a row and six of their last eight. The Marlins have lost three straight and nine of their last 11.
Dodgers 10, Padres 2: Clayton Kershaw won his eight straight decision over San Diego, holding the Padres to an eighth-inning solo homer by pinch hitter Ryan Schimpf in Los Angeles’ victory.
Kershaw (5-2) allowed five hits and issued a season-high four walks against nine strikeouts in 7 1/3 innings.
Orioles 6, White Sox 5: Trey Mancini and Manny Machado homered, and Dylan Bundy gave Baltimore another solid start as the Orioles won their third straight game.
Reds 14, Giants 2: Adam Duvall, Patrick Kivlehan and Eugenio Suarez homered as Cincinnati won its fourth straight game by pounding San Francisco for the second straight night.
The Reds have won the first two games of this weekend’s series by a combined 27-5 with the runs scored over the two games their most since 2010.
Rockies 9, Diamondbacks 1: Tyler Anderson pitched six innings, the first time he did that in seven starts this season, in Colorado’s rout of Arizona.
The Rockies broke a four-game losing streak at Coors Field, where they are 8-7 as opposed to 11-5 on the road.
Mariners 8, Rangers 2: Two-out, two-run singles from Danny Valencia and Ben Gamel highlighted a seven-run seventh inning that lifted Seattle over Texas.
Gamel had two hits, two RBIs and a run in the inning that saw the Mariners send 11 batters to the plate.
Angels 2, Astros 1: Andrelton Simmons’ walk-off single in the ninth inning lifted Los Angeles over Houston.
Pirates 2, Brewers 1 (10 innings): Josh Harrison hit a walk-off, RBI single in the bottom of the 10th inning to score Gift Ngoepe from third base and give Pittsburgh the victory.
Cardinals 5, Braves 3: Aledmys Diaz continued his torrid hitting and Mike Leake allowed one hit until the seventh inning as St. Louis defeated Atlanta. — Reuters
