MAKKAH — Al-Omrah District Municipal Office’s inspectors destroyed 1,395 expired and spurious pastry and confectionery products and confiscated more than 7,000 such items. Eight expatriate works were arrested for illegally running a warehouse for packaging spurious and expired pastries and confectionery items.

The expat workers had rented the warehouse in a remote area in north Makkah and sealed pastries and confectionery items in packets of well-known companies.
They were about to distribute the products in Makkah when the inspectors raided the warehouse.
“The inspectors got suspicious about the activities in the warehouse. They kept a close eye on it for a few days until they made sure that it violates the hygiene requirements.
“The inspectors raided the warehouse and found a large amount of pastry and confectionery products that were on their way to the market,” said Khalid Sindi, head of Al-Omrah district municipal office.
The workers did not have any official health permits.
Sindi said the inspectors will continue to run intensive inspection visits all over Makkah.
