STUTTGART — Feliciano Lopez upset Tomas Berdych 6-7 (4), 6-3, 6-4 and Mischa Zverev ended veteran Tommy Haas' participation in the Stuttgart Open quarterfinals Friday.
Lopez saved all nine break points he faced against the third-seeded Berdych.

Zverev defeated Haas 6-4, 6-4 for a semifinal against Lopez.

The 39-year-old Haas, who defeated Roger Federer in the second round Wednesday, was playing for the last time at the grass-court tournament.

Zverev says, "I'm a bit sorry, especially because I could always hear his daughter, who shouted, 'Come on, Daddy!' They're special moments. He's a champion."

Also, the fourth-seeded Lucas Pouille defeated Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-4, 2-6, 6-3.

Pouille next faces Benoit Paire or Jerzy Janowicz in the other semifinal.

World No. 10 Grigor Dimitrov was knocked out Thursday when he was beaten 7-6 (7/4), 6-3 by Poland's world 155 Jerzy Janowicz.

Del Potro out of Queen's

Argentina's former US Open champion Juan Martin del Potro faces a battle to be fit for Wimbledon after witdrawing from the key build-up tournament at Queen's because of a groin injury.

The 28-year-old, who has been cursed by injuries throughout his career, said he had withdrawn from next week's tournament in London on medical advice.

The injury flared up at the French Open — where he was knocked out by Andy Murray in the third round — and forced him to sit out the ATP tournament in s'Hertogenbosch this week.

"Following my doctor's advice, I won't be able to play Queen's this year since I am still recovering from my injury," tweeted Del Potro, who reached the semifinals at Wimbledon in 2013.

"Queen's is one of my favorite tournaments and I am really sorry for my fans there, I've got great memories of the Queen's Club.

"Patience. I will definitely see you in 2018," he added.

Del Potro's withdrawal follows that of French Open champion Rafael Nadal, who wants to rest before Wimbledon gets underway on July 3. — Agencies
