MAKKAH
— The Ministry of Health has called on the general public to take preventive measures against pneumonia, asthma, and seasonal influenza.

The ministry said all proper medication for these conditions is available at hospitals and primary healthcare centers.

Dr. Na’elah Abu Al-Jadayel, chest consultant, said that if pilgrims suffer from a chronic disease such as diabetes, hypertension, cardiology and other chest-related conditions, they should see a doctor and carry proper medication with them at all times.

Al-Jadayel said all healthcare professionals who were selected for the Haj program this year must take the meningitis vaccine.

This also applies to citizens and expatriates who were planning to perform Haj this year.

She advised pilgrims to stay away from direct sunlight and crowded places, use an umbrella and consume as much water and juice as possible.

She also said all food should be well-cooked and protected from flies and insects.

Pilgrims should eat more vegetables and fruits, she also advised.
