DUBAI — Al-Wasl has hired former Monaco coach Guy Lacombe to replace Bruno Metsu, who stepped down last month after being diagnosed with stomach cancer. Lacombe, who has coached other French clubs including Paris Saint-Germain, will be presented to the media ahead of the Dubai club’s next match against Al-Jazira. The club started out strong under Metsu, but has struggled since he stepped down, losing 5-0 this week to Al-Ain, which leaves it eighth in the 14-team league. Metsu was in his first season with the club, replacing Diego Maradona, who was sacked after the club failed to win any silverware in his first season. — AP
