Pilgrims throng the Quba Mosque in Madinah, Thursday. The foundation of Quba, the first mosque ever built, was laid by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) upon his arrival in Madinah from Makkah. The historic mosque, about three km from the Prophet’s Mosque, was completed in 622 C.E. The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has this year approved a SR100 million revamp plan of the historic mosque. The ministry began the 8,000 sq. meter expansion project in February that is scheduled to complete in 24 months. — SPA
