DUBAI — Olympic star Sun Yang picked up his second gold medal of the Asian swimming championships as the Chinese dominated for a second straight day Friday.

Sun’s victory in the 400m freestyle was one of five golds won by China in the six early races — to go with eight out of 10 on the opening day.

Olympic bronze medalist Tang Yi also picked up her second gold, edging out compatriot Wang Haibing in the 50 free, while Olympic silver medalist Lu Ying took gold in the women’s 50 butterfly.

Sun won the 400 in a championship record 3:42.49, 12 seconds faster than his closest rival Hao Yun of China.

Sun Thursday won the 200m freestyle also in a championship-record 1 minute, 45.49 seconds, 4.18 seconds faster than teammate Hao Yun.

In France, meanwhile, two-time Olympic gold medalist Yannick Agnel has set a short course world record (3 minutes, 32.25 seconds) in the 400m freestyle at the French Swimming Championships. — AP
