JEDDAH — Pakistan Navy ship PNS Shamsheer arrived at Jeddah Islamic Port Saturday on a goodwill-cum-training visit to Saudi Arabia.

The ship derives its name from the traditional Muslim sword Shamsheer. Swords are considered a symbol of valor in Islamic history. The ship was built in Shanghai and commissioned on Dec. 18, 2009.

On Tuesday, PNS Shamsheer will welcome on board members of the Pakistani community who have already sent their names and iqama numbers to the naval attaché at the Embassy of Pakistan, Riyadh. Buses will be arranged from Pakistan International School, Aziziah, at 2 p.m., for interested community members. — SG
