HAIL — The Ministry of Social Affairs’ branch in Hail is under investigation over the delay in the construction of a social development center and the alleged embezzlement of SR400,000 in funds allocated for the project.

Documents obtained by Al-Watan newspaper show manipulation of invoices and dubious transactions.

Additionally, social awareness, family guidance, and women and children development campaigns were not initiated in the region but funds allocated for these programs had been spent. The documents also point at the execution of some unapproved projects. The investigation involves officials of social development centers.

Director of Social Affairs in Hail Salem Al-Sabhan denied the embezzlement allegations.

He said the investigation was the result of complaints raised by some people who could not obtain jobs for themselves or their relatives at his center.

He pointed out that all projects are implemented under the strict monitoring of the ministry. Unused funds are returned to the ministry or are forwarded to the following year’s budget. — SG
