DUBAI — Shanshan Feng of China won the Dubai Ladies Masters by five strokes Saturday after shooting a 3-under 69 to capture her second Ladies European Tour title.

The highest-ranked player in the field at No. 6, Feng had an eagle, two birdies and a bogey to total 21-under 267 at Emirates Golf Club.

“I didn’t look at the leaderboard until 18, so I had no idea how everyone else was doing. But I’m very happy,” said Feng, who won the World Ladies Championship in March. “I wanted a top-five finish this week and I did even better than that. I played solid all week and my putting was the key.”

Dewi Claire Schreefel of the Netherlands (69) was next. Caroline Masson of Germany (71) and Becky Brewerton of Wales (65) were four strokes further back to be tied for third.

Masson needed to finish second to win the Order of Merit from Carlota Ciganda but a double-bogey on No. 12 ended her hopes.

“I gave it my best shot, but it was just not good enough,” Masson said.

Instead, the Spaniard became the first player since Laura Davies in 1985 to win the Order of Merit and Rookie of the Year in the same season. “It ends an unbelievable season,” said Ciganda, who shot a 68 to finish 12 off the pace. “I’m very proud.”

Defending champion Lexi Thompson (70) finished with a share of 10th place, while Michelle Wie (69) was tied for 19th.

Senden leads Rose by two

In Sydney, Australian John Senden holed an eagle and two birdies on his back nine holes Saturday to lead England’s Justin Rose by two shots heading into the final round of OneAsia’s Australian Open at The Lakes. Senden came home strongly for a two-under par 70 for a seven-under 209 and to hold the advantage over world No. 4 Rose going into Sunday’s final 18 holes.

Senden, the first-round leader, ignited his round with a brilliant eagle three on the par-5 11th.

He followed up with back-to-back birdies on the 13th and 14th holes to put himself in line for a second national open crown after winning at Royal Sydney in 2006.

Veteran Australian Peter Senior is one of three players on four-under 212, while Australia’s world No. 7 Adam Scott edged into calculations with a one-under 71 to be five shots off the lead. Halfway leader Marcus Fraser fell back to a tie for ninth after a 76, while American great Tom Watson crashed out of contention with a six-over 78.

Schwartzel sights title

In Thailand, Charl Schwartzel dropped his first bogey of the week Saturday, but it would probably require a spectacular final round meltdown to deny the South African his maiden Thailand Golf Championship title.

The ninth-hole bogey was the lone blot in Schwartzel’s penultimate round of four-under-par 68 as the 2011 Masters winner, last year’s runner-up here, raced five shots clear off Indian-born Swede Daniel Chopra at 18-under-par 198.

Chopra overcame a double bogey and battled to a 69, while local hope Thitiphun Chuayprakong scrambled to a 71 for third place further one shot back.

Sergio Garcia sank two closing birdies in his round of 68 to lie eight shots off lead, a gap he thought too big to bridge. “He played great last year and is doing great again,” the Spaniard said of Schwartzel. “He obviously likes the course,” Garcia said.
