JEDDAH — Al Khozama International School hosted the second Peevees United Nations Simulation Conference (UNSC) 2013 under the patronage of Peevees Group of Schools on Jan. 10 at Rezayat Community Hall in Al-Khobar.



Around 48 students from all the three Peevees Schools — Al Wurood International School, Jeddah, Al Yasmin International School, Riyadh and Al Khozama International School, Dammam — participated in the conference themed “Sustainable peace for the Sustainable Future.”



The conference aimed at developing skills such as decision making, critical thinking, problem solving and negotiating.



The students represented 12 nations, namely, India, the US, UK, France, Portugal , Russia, Germany, China, Guatemala, Azerbaijan, Pakistan and Morocco.



Principal Dr. L.P. Ravikumar had welcomed the gathering. The event was inaugurated by Ashraf AM, general manager of Peevees Group of Schools, KSA. He handed over the UN Flag to the chairpersons of General Assembly and Security Council of UN.



The General Assembly was chaired by Master Tariq Abdul Rahman.



The topics discussed in the conference were: sustainable path of renewable energy, child labor and health care, a major challenge in the underdeveloped countries, world peace and security, climate change and global security and cyberspace.



The participants, perfectly playing the role of world leaders, exuded confidence while delivering their speeches, questioning the other leaders and listening to the suggestions made by others.



The Security Council was chaired by Miriam Bobby.



The chief guest for the concluding ceremony was Dr. E K Mohammed Shaffe, principal and HOI of International Indian School, Dammam.



Sreedevi Menon, assistant director of programs, Peevees Group of Schools, KSA; Rahmatullah, principal of Al Wurood International School; Razi Shaikpareeth, administration manager; Timochin Hasan, marketing manager of Saudi Gazzette; and Siraj Wahab, editor of Arab News were present on the occasion to award the winners.



The program was conducted in a very professional and efficient manner by coordinator Sindhu P V.



The overall championship for the conference was awarded to Al Wurood with Al Yasmin being the first runner up and Al Khozama the second runner up. The best delegate awards went to Montassir Abdullah Ibrahim of Al Wurood and Reya Baju of Al Yasmin.



The best speaker awards were bagged by Hejaz Aslam of Al Khozama and Montassir Abdullah Ibrahim of Al Wurood. — SG
