MAKKAH — The Makkah Mayoralty will distribute 600,000 leaflets during its anti-dengue fever campaign that was recently launched.
The goal is to educate the public about dengue fever and reduce the chances of mosquitoes breeding, according to the mayoralty’s head of cleaning Muhammad Al-Mourqi.
The general public will be educated about the importance of reducing mosquito infestations in and around their homes, Al-Mourqi said.
Raising public awareness is a top priority for the mayoralty.
The campaign will continue for two weeks, during which young men from Makkah neighborhoods who were trained by the mayoralty will participate in distributing the leaflets and educating the general public about dengue fever, said the head of mayoralty’s quality department Hassan Al-Shenawi.
He said: “We’ll send young men to malls, cafés, car wash locations and places likely to have mosquito infestations.”
People will be educated about dengue fever symptoms and how people contract the disease.
