Abdul Latif Jameel Company (ALJ) has recalled certain units of 2007 and 2008 Toyota Fortuner vehicles, based on the regulation number 2397 issued by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry.

The recall was based on Toyota announcement that the rear propeller shaft in limited units of 2007 and 2008 Fortuner vehicles (4 cylinders) could have been installed incorrectly in a way that requires adjustment, ALJ said in a statement Monday.

Toyota said this improper installation may lead to undesirable noises or concussion when driving the vehicle on maximum speed for long distances.

Accordingly, based on the procedures followed in such cases, ALJ informed the Ministry of Commerce and Industry in its letter number that Toyota Motor Corporation in Japan has decided to recall certain units of 2007 and 2008 Toyota Fortuner vehicles, including 2,965 units sold in Saudi Arabia.

ALJ said in the letter that, in some of these vehicles, the rear propeller shaft installation requires inspection, and may require minor adjustment to ensure optimal performance.

While no complaints or accidents have been reported to ALJ, the company informed the Ministry that it would announce the recall next month through the local newspapers.

The recall included all countries that imports the mentioned models of Toyota Fortuner, including the GCC countries.

Through this recall, ALJ is assuring consumers that the company is seeking to provide them the utmost levels of security, safety and peace of mind. — SG
